Let’s work together to save Barack and Michelle Obama Academy Elementary School from closure as a part of the APS Facilities Plan.
SAVE BaMO
Check back soon for the next BAMO strategy meeting.
What’s going on?
Atlanta Public Schools is considering major changes to schools across the district as part of its 2025 Comprehensive Facilities Plan. The goal is to address declining enrollment, underused buildings, and funding challenges.
Some schools may be repurposed or closed to reduce the 20,000 empty seats across Atlanta Public Schools. This would involve redrawing attendance boundaries and shifting students to other schools.
Time is running out for the community to provide input.
BaMO has the highest academic growth in the cluster, the highest CCRPI score between BaMO, Dunbar, Benteen and Wesley.
BaMO is basically equal in terms of poverty (over 90%), homelessness (around 25%) and racial demographics with Dunbar.
BaMO has 24% special needs students vs 6% at Dunbar.
BaMO has 100 more seat capacity than Dunbar, and just underwent a multi-million dollar renovation to meet the needs of the programming and community.
Why save BaMO?
