APS Facilities Plan Overview
APS - Scenarios Presentation
The APS Forward 2040 Facilities Plan is a long-term strategy developed by Atlanta Public Schools to address facility utilization, enrollment trends, and educational equity. The plan explores various options, including school closures, mergers, and expansions.
Key Features
School Closures: The plan considers the potential closure of schools with declining enrollment or underutilized capacity. Schools being considered for closure in the current plan include:
Carver Cluster: Perkerson ES or Finch ES
Douglass Cluster: FL Stanton ES
Jackson Cluster: Barack and Michelle Obama ES or Dunbar ES
Mays Cluster: Peyton Forest ES or West Manor ES
South Atlanta Cluster: Heritage Academy, Cleveland ES, or Humphries ES
Therrell Cluster: Kimberly ES or Continental Colony ES
Washington Cluster: M.A. Jones ES
School Mergers: Merging schools is being evaluated to consolidate resources and improve educational offerings. For instance, options include combining Jackson Main and Jackson Primary, as well as merging Smith Primary and Sarah Smith Primary.
School Expansions: Expanding certain schools is being considered to accommodate growing student populations. Potential expansions are under review for Midtown High School, Maynard Jackson High School, and King Middle School.
